Water Lily Pond at Big Bone Gardens

Water lilies belong to the Nymphaeaceae family of flowering plants.  Water lilies live in freshwater areas in temperate and tropical climates around the world.  There are about 70 species of water lilies around the world.  Water lilies are rooted in soil in bodies of water, with leaves and flowers floating on the water surface.  The leaves are round and some have a radial notch.

Big Bone Gardens has a beautiful 1-acre pond that sprouts water lilies every summer.

Water lilies have big, beautiful flowers, some growing to over a foot in diameter.

There are benches throughout the Gardens where you can sit, rest and reflect on the natural beauty that surrounds you.

In the center of the pond is a small island with a lookout tower.  A split-rock bridge connects the island to shore.
